As 2016 has come to a close, so many of us have taken the time to reflect on this past year. A lot of people keep talking about how awful it was. Now I admit it hasn’t been the most fantastic year in history, but it absolutely hasn’t been AWFUL. Yes, a large sum of famous people died (only God knew Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds would die a day apart, and right at the end of the year no less, lol *cries*), but there have been a lot of great things that have happened! A lot of people got married or engaged, I got three A’s this Fall semester, and Donald Trump was elected President over Hillary Clinton! There’s SO. MUCH. to be thankful for,
especially when it comes to our national security and economy!
Of course, with the arrival of a new year there comes a flood of people who come up with New Year’s resolutions. People make New Year’s resolutions every year, but hardly anybody ever sticks them out. I applaud those who actually do! I’ve never really made a resolution, but when I have semi-done so I haven’t succeeded in seeing it through, but I feel like if I call it something different I might actually achieve something this year. I had a few “goals” for 2016, but I only achieved like three of them (for the record, they were deep clean my bedroom, actually start my YouTube channel, and save enough money to purchase a DSLR, which I purchased!). It’s easier for me to accomplish something when I have a checklist of sorts, and because this blog is on the internet and the internet has become a sort of permanent thing in my life, I thought I would write down all of the little things that have been stewing in my brain for the past few months. I’ve decided not to call them goals, but that’s totally what they are. Oh, well.
I would love it if you would help keep me accountable (if anybody’s even reading this, hah), but this is mostly just so I can have it in written form to help my brain realize that these are real things and not just ideas and possibilities. So, with that said, here are the things I would like to do in 2017.
When I really boil down to the core of what my aim is, I want to use 2017 to better myself. I’ve been in this unmotivated slump for the past few years, and that has been the product of a lot of different things. There’s a lot of nuances to this part of
my goals the things I’d like to do this year, but generally these are some things I’d like to accomplish, or at the very least begin tackling:
Read my Bible
more every day
Wake up at a reasonable time (like, at 7 or 8 in the morning)
Go to bed early (like, before midnight)
Put down my phone more often
Stop spending money recklessly
Come up with a budget for my money
Get an apartment
Exercise 3-5 times a week
Drink only water this year (with the exception of milk if I eat cereal)
Get to a point where I am content with being single
Stop worrying about what other people think about every little thing I do, say, wear, think, etc.
Stop worrying about what I think about every little thing I do, say, wear, think, etc.
This is definitely the part of my life that needs the most work. It’s going to be such a challenge racking up the motivation to get up and start walking towards my goal (physically and metaphorically), but I’m hoping that I can start small and work up from there. That seems like such a simple thing, to start at the beginning and move up, but for a perfectionist like myself, it is SO difficult to let myself (and MAKE myself) make imperfect pieces of art in order to create a foundation for the more difficult and nuanced masterpieces. But I know that if I allow myself to start small (with like a 30-60 minute walk a day, or only drinking water, or even writing down five things I like about myself every day), I can slowly build up that stamina so I can hit it hard with the more difficult and detailed area for which I am striving.
I hope that all made sense. It made sense in my mind. Haha! 😉
There are SO. MANY. THINGS. that I would love to do or try, but there have been so many things that have held me back from doing them, like insecurities about myself or what people think, and even basic logistics of where I live or what I own. I realize that once I check off a few of the things in the Lifestyle part of
my goals the things I’d like to do in 2017, I’ll be better suited to accomplish these fun hobbies and passions of mine! Here are a few of them:
Learn to cook delicious food
Read more books for fun
Immediately do the things I am inspired to do
Create a set schedule for uploading to YouTube
Make content that I enjoy
Buy a microphone
Start recording music on Garage Band
Write more music
Delve into photography
Become a Patron of Blimey Cow on Patreon
Start posting to this blog more often (once a week-ish)
These are things I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Some I have been actively pursuing for a while and I would just like to keep doing them (like writing music), but others I want to delve into more and get into a groove with (like cooking and making YouTube videos). Some things will be easier once I get an apartment, so I’m excited for the Fall semester for that to happen (also, side note, by that time I will be a JUNIOR in college! WHAT!?). Additionally, the Patreon thing is something that may come with the budget thing from Lifestyle. We’ll see how that turns out.
I would love to…
See Miranda Sings in concert
See Tim Hawkins in concert
Go to Vidcon
Go to DidCon
Go to Nashville once or twice
I will DEFINITELY see Miranda Sings and Tim Hawkins in a few weeks (EEEEP!!!!), but VidCon and Nashville are a bit up in the air right now. During the summer I’d love to focus on working and taking a class, so I’m not sure how VidCon will fit into that. Also, depending on whether or not I become a Patron of Blimey Cow will affect if I go to Nashville. DidCon is also in Nashville. For both of these there are also just financial things. Dude, why am I writing all of these details? Sigh. Whatever.
So that, in an extremely detailed nutshell, is the list of things I’d like to do in 2017. I’m hoping to update once every one or two weeks on how I’m doing with it! I would LOVE to accomplish each and every one of these things. I know not all will be checked off by the time we reach 2018, but I can at least try! Here’s to 2017! May the force be with us.
